WHOIS & RDAP Lookup

Registration data straight from the authoritative registry, over RDAP where available.

Examples:

WHOIS answers “who registered this?” for domains, IP networks and autonomous systems. Its modern replacement is RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol): the same data as structured JSON over HTTPS, with standard fields instead of free text.

This tool picks the authoritative server from IANA’s bootstrap registry — the regional internet registry (ARIN, RIPE NCC, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC) for IP addresses and AS numbers, the registry operator for domains — and falls back to classic WHOIS only for top-level domains that don’t offer RDAP yet. Since GDPR most registries redact personal contact details.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?

RDAP returns structured JSON over HTTPS, supports internationalised data and standard status codes, and is now required for gTLD registries. WHOIS is unstructured text over TCP port 43.

Why are contact details hidden?

Privacy regulations such as the GDPR led registries and registrars to redact personal data. Organisations' names and abuse contacts are usually still published.

Where do I report abuse from an IP address?

Use the abuse contact in the IP network's registration record. The full report on this site shows it when the registry publishes one.
